By the Book: U.S. Military’s Justification for Destroying Bibles

Would it surprise you to learn that the U.S. military has rounded up numerous Bibles in Afghanistan and destroyed them?

The Bibles translated into Dari & Pashto languages were mailed by an Evangelical Christian church to an American soldier serving in Afghanistan.  The military, concerned that the soldier in question might try to convert others to Christianity, ordered chaplains to confiscate the Bibles and destroy them.  None had been distributed.

In a Pentagon briefing yesterday, Admiral Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff articulated that it is the policy of the U.S. Military that no one on active duty will “push any specific religion”.

Unless the “specific religion” is secular humanism, right Admiral?
